“Dyslexic children
‘allowed to fail for years' before schools intervene”*
According to Lord Addington in the United Kingdom^ school children are not given help until they fail which means that “you're guaranteeing more failure.”
He said that an educational psychologist told him “We normally rely on people having failed for X number of years before we intervene”
It is unacceptable to wait until the child fails and loses confidence. The teacher gets frustrated by the lack of resources and parents are worried sick
There is a better way to help your dyslexic child.
We know that early identification of educational needs and intervention can be crucial. We need to:
- Recruit
additional educational psychologists
- Give more training to Special Education Needs Coordinators.
- Upgrade learning intervention resources
This can allow your child to master those reading skills, catch up in class and achieve their reading and learning potential.
What do you think? Is the government correct to wait and see?

John
