We got a huge reaction to our email on “Dyslexic children ‘allowed to fail for years' before schools intervene”
The fallout from the lack of effective intervention is massive. Parents wrote that they themselves were hurt by dyslexia "huge anxiety during my school time", "worrying about my future", not achieving
goals like university qualifications until reaching their 40's or 50's. Such a wasted time and potential.
The school system is a conveyor belt focused on exams
and a lot of children fall off.
Children continue to struggle. People talk about their child with dyslexia "refusing to go to school", "lost confidence and
self-esteem", losing support resources at a critical time and much more.
A lot of you pointed out the lack of follow-up interventions after
assessments.
Some mentioned the hidden side of dyslexia - cognitive/learning skill deficits such as poor memory, weak attention levels, poor language skills and so on.
The good news is that there are a lot of people who care and are making a huge difference to children's lives.
Keep banging the drum.

John
