Hi ,
We have updated our Neuron Learning Dyslexia Checklist.
Take a look through it because it highlights some of the symptoms your child may be experiencing

Is there anything on the list that resonates with you? For example, does your child find it hard to concentrate?
In this email I would like to explain why children with dyslexia often find it difficult to concentrate when
listening.
Auditory Processing.
When listening, for example, your child must process what is being said as it is being said and they must process accurately in order to keep up with the speaker.
If their processing speed is slower than it should be then it can lead to difficulties with
social communications or in the classroom.
If they misinterpret part of what the teacher is saying they may think the teacher is talking about one thing, when in fact the teacher is talking about something else.
By the time they realise this the teacher has moved on and the child cannot pick up where they left off leading to loss of concentration.
Poor Auditory Processing is one of the core issues with dyslexia. Some of the consequences of this when listening are:
1. Loss of concentration
2. Misinterpreting what is being said
3. Not following all of what is being said
4. Difficulties following
instructions
5. Needing repetition from the speaker
6. Struggling to get jokes or sarcasm
7. Struggling to understand inferences, nuances and subtleties in language
8. Difficulties in social communications and negotiations (especially in noisy environments)
9. Tiredness and
frustration
Does your child experience any of these things?
We will be covering more aspects of dyslexia in future emails. Is there anything in particular you would like me to talk to you about?
We look forward to your feedback.
Kind regards,
Joyce
