Today's email focuses on the skills involved in READING.
In order to ACCESS the printed word your child must...
- Process the information on the page starting with processing the sounds and visuals
- Sequence the sounds, words,
sentences and the story
- Absorb the words and content by engaging Working Memory
- Concentrate or pay Attention long enough to take all the information in while reading a sentence, paragraph, page, chapter...
For example our program, Fast ForWord, starts by strengthening these crucial cognitive skills of
Memory, Attention, Processing and Sequencing - key foundations for learning
All of which are necessary for better listening, speech, reading, writing, social interactions and learning.
There are 3 Parts To Reading.
1. Decoding
2.
Comprehension
3. Fluency
This is vital. As we shall see its not all about the mechanics of reading.
The outcome is comprehension.
Fluency is critical for comprehension, flow, confidence and exam success.
We will look at these 3 parts in the next emails
All the best
John
PS This week I'm putting together a small group of parents who want to help
their children get ready for the new year by working on their reading skills using Fast ForWord
We plan to start the week of Monday 4th November
The exercises can be done in as little as 30 minutes daily at home
Your child will be better able to pay attention, stay focused and remember what they are
reading and learning.
They will also develop the ability to follow what the teacher is teaching in the classroom.
Our typical results are 1 to 2 years reading gains in 40 to 60 hours work.
Would you like to join us?
Just reply with the
word "interested" and we will get you the information you need.
