There are 3 Parts To Reading.
1. Decoding
2. Comprehension
3. Fluency
Decoding - the written word
In order to decode the code we must know the code which is easier said than done.
Especially if your child is a struggling reader or struggles to learn the 46 sounds in the English language.
English is not a transparent language nor is it a phonetic language like Spanish or Italian.
However, we
do start by teaching the phonic sounds e.g. /A/ is for Ant, /S/ is for Snake etc.
This can become quite confusing very quickly when working with similar sounding sounds e.g. /b/ and /d/ or /sh/ and /ch/ especially if your child's processing is not as good as it should be and they cannot always differentiate between the sounds because they sound too alike in their minds.
Vowel sounds can also be tricky because they sound very alike as well...
/a/, /e/, /i/, /o/ and /u/.
Fast ForWord helps sharpen your child's processing accuracy and speed to help improve their ability to accurately process sounds and sequence them so they can register the initial and final consonant sounds in
words, middle vowel sounds and blended sounds helping them to ACCESS the code more effectively enabling them to learn the code so eventually they can decode the code!
The outcome is comprehension.
Then fluency is critical for comprehension, flow, confidence and exam success.
We will look at these 2 parts in the next emails
All the best

PS This week I'm putting together a small group of
parents who want to help their children get ready for the new year by working on their reading skills using Fast ForWord
We plan to start the week of Monday 4th November
The exercises can be done in as little as 30 minutes daily at home
Your child will be better able to pay attention, stay focused and
remember what they are reading and learning.
They will also develop the ability to follow what the teacher is teaching in the classroom.
Our typical results are 1 to 2 years reading gains in 40 to 60 hours work.
Would you like to join us?
Just reply with the word "interested" and we will get you the information you need.
