Dear
Summer is here in all its glory with warm, sunny days and long evenings...
Our children are glad to finally have their school holidays. It is all about fun, fun, fun for the next six weeks before returning to school for a
new school year with new teachers.
However, the worry for some of us whose children are struggling at school does not end when the final bell of the school year rings.
Some of us continue to worry about our children and want answers to questions like...
- Why is my child struggling?
- What exactly is preventing them from doing
well in school?
- Why do teachers say "if only they listened..." or "If only they concentrated..."?
- Why is reading so difficult for them?
- Why can't my child remember what they have just read?
- Why is spelling, grammar, and punctuation all problematic for them?
- Why does my child find it difficult to maintain friendships?
- Why is my child not on the birthday party invitation list sometimes?
What can I do to help my child?
It breaks my heart! ❤️🩹
Should I have them assessed?
Not all children who are struggling necessarily need to be assessed.
Schools may refer students to Educational Psychologists for assessments, but unfortunately each school has very limited access
to such assessments that are funded by the government, and principals are faced with having to choose one child over another for these coveted referrals.
These are impossible choices for principals to make when we know that approximately 10% of students struggle with learning in some way.
Some parents decide to have their children assessed privately, but unfortunately, there
can be an 18-month waiting list. Sometimes it can be even longer.
The questions are...
What can be done in the meantime?
Or
What if my child needs a boost because they are struggling, but I feel they do not need to be assessed?
At Neuron Learning, we work with many children who may
be slipping or who may have already fallen behind their peers. The gap can often become wider as children get older. Our goal is to bridge the gap as much as we possibly can by developing good thinking and learning skills to improve language, reading, and learning.
Let us help you to help your child this summer to stop the slide and to start bridging the gap between where they are and where they need to be in order to
access more effective reading and learning and social skills.
This is a call to action...
Let's start by building The Reading Circle.
1. The first part of the circle is to build up the thinking skills by improving...
Memory
Attention or
Concentration
Processing
Sequencing
We need these skills for...
Listening and Speech
Reading and Writing
Learning
Social Skills
2. The second part of the Reading Circle builds...
Reading and Reading
Comprehension
Spelling, Grammar, and Punctuation
3. The third part of the Reading Circle builds...
Fluency
Vocabulary
Pronunciation
Comprehension
Join us today to start working on building up the necessary skills to help your child access what is going on
in the classroom and to improve reading, writing, learning, and social skills.
Take advantage of the summer break to start this journey.
This is what one parent had to say about her son after he worked on the program...
"Conor was identified as having dyslexia and dysgraphia a number of weeks
prior to starting the Fast ForWord program; now he is thriving in all aspects of his life.
His performance in school was below average. His poor performance manifested mainly as lack of concentration; his written output was poor, and he found it difficult to process instructions. Now he is thriving at school, he is very content, and his behaviour is without incident..." Julia (Mum)
