Dear
Here are two hands-on math games for grades 2-3
The activities focus on place value, money, counting strategies, and arrays—
foundational skills that
benefit from both screen-based adaptive practice and concrete manipulation
Teaching Questions & Strategies
Both activities use inquiry-based learning through guiding questions that prompt students to:
- Explain their reasoning ("How did you decide which numbers to put in which spaces?")
- Compare and contrast ("How are the images the
same/different?")
- Explore mathematical relationships ("Which arrangements work better for certain numbers?")
The strategies emphasise:
- Collaborative problem-solving (working in groups)
- Multiple representations (visual arrays, money values)
- Differentiated instruction (supporting learners vs. extensions)
- Strategic thinking
(making decisions about placement and arrangement)
Benefits of Combining with Digital Resources
These paper activities are designed to complement our Zorbit's Maths digital platform. But they are usable as printed materials
We combine both printable and digital for:
Flexibility: Physical manipulatives bridge
concepts between digital lessons and tactile learning
Engagement: Games make practice feel less like worksheets and more like play
Reinforcement: Hands-on activities cement concepts introduced digitally
Gap-filling: Parents and teachers can use these during tech-free time or to address specific misconceptions uncovered through digital analytics
